Teaching Philosophy

My Teaching Philosophy Teaching philosophies are an essential part of being a teacher. To be a effective teacher you must have a philosophy and revise and adapt that philosophy to time periods and the society you are working with. I personally do not expect to know everything when going into teaching but I will search for knowledge for the sake of my students and myself. As a teacher I will commit to my student’s education enhancement by providing a firm yet inviting educational environment with enough comfortableness to feel free to open their minds to new possibilities and measures. The fact that they are human and every human is unique awakens my ability to become sensitive to diversity and help them gain that sensibility as well. I will strive to have every student at the end of each year feel and know that language is their tool for success and that I handed them a helpful piece of encouragement for them to polish that tool and get to work. I will make sure that every student will grasp a liking to the English language, even to those art forms that are classified as “dull”. For example, when teaching poetry, I will show the basics and bases, but bring them to know and admire those who use poetry to express thoughts that the actual students think and feel. I plan on achieving these goals and many more by teaching my students self-discipline and responsibility for their failures and triumphs. With an organized curriculum design including an extensive list of reading material, field trips, the integration of activities and things they are fond of and a strict level of expectations, I will succeed in helping society mold another good citizen and achieve the goal of every teacher. I base my philosophy on a mix up from the behaviorist and constructivist. I took from the behaviorist the elements of rewarding my students and punishing them as well. Through rewarding and punishing I can gain a specific behavior from them and make them aware that in life we are constantly being rewarded for the good and punished by the unacceptable. By using a constructivist view I can construct upon their previous knowledge and make the lessons meaningful for them. In synthesis, I will use these two philosophies and join them into my own in order to meet every goal I set my self and to push my students to their maximum potential.
